It’s amazing how Trump called out the press in his most recent press conference (2/16) and they turned around and did just what he said they would, that they would report negatively about the conference saying he was “ranting and raving.” After I watched the conference, I did a search on responses quickly proving the President correct. If you didn’t watch the whole thing yourself but only saw/read highlights filtered through the mainstream media, it paints an entirely different and largely off-putting picture of Trump and what he said.
One of the lamest things I came across was a journalist saying basically: I’m not saying he was ‘ranting and raving’ but that he “was confidently unhinged.” This guy and many others are also not really getting some of Trump’s joking. They have no sense of humor and take offense at everything imaginable. Gimme a break guys. You’re falling for it. He’s making you look stupid to everyone except the people too dumb to realize YOU are the real purveyors of fake news.
Here’s a couple of the “least biased” commentaries:
And this from Wired about the focus on the media:How You Saw Trump’s Press Conference Depends on How You Watched
This isn’t false equivalence. The Timeses and CNNs of the world don’t have anywhere near as explicit a political agenda as the Breitbarts and Drudges. They’re not two sides. That’s what was on display in the aftermath of the press conference. They didn’t even cover the same things. They told different stories.
So which is it? Trump’s press conference was undignified, unpresidential, and weirdly directed at the media instead of the country he leads. But his supporters saw a display of power by a president sloughing off the manacles of coastal elitism. Thanks to the accelerated hyper-partisanship of a social media-powered news cycle, the country is now seeing double.
